Building on the success of Coach Beyond in Ohio, LiFEsports and OHSAA, in collaboration with the Susan Crown Exchange, are now working to help state and local leaders in Indiana, Maryland, and Kansas develop statewide infrastructure to enhance coach education and training in their respective states.

The Need
Based on data from the National Coach Survey (2022):

of Kansas coaches (67%) report wanting additional training in life skill development through sport

of Indiana coaches want training on motivational techniques, stress management, and emotional regulation
76%
of Ohio coaches expressed an interest in more training on mental health and mental performance
35%
of Maryland coaches feel prepared to work with athletes with mental health concerns
State Goals
- Develop and convene a Coach Beyond state team
- Strengthen outreach, public awareness/marketing, and dissemination efforts to youth and high school sport programs/coaches
- Conduct a state-wide needs assessments of coaches and leaders in youth sport
- Train sport coaches in each state using Coach Beyond or other positive youth development curricula
- Explore the role of the coach training in promoting positive youth sport experiences
